Team LeadUnited NationsAsha DeSuza is the Team Leader for Sustainable Development in the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Asha has served as Team Leader for Sustainable Development and Financing for Development in the Office of the President of the General Assembly at its 78th Session. During this session, she initiated and coordinated the first-ever UNGA Sustainability Week and coordinated the Board of Advisers to the President of the General Assembly on Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States. Before joining the OPGA, Asha was a career diplomat, serving at the Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations since 2017, where she represented the Government in the UNGA Human Rights, Humanitarian and Social Affairs Committee as well as the UNGA Legal Committee. During this time, Asha was also responsible for global health and foreign policy, international migration and oceans affairs. Asha was the CARICOM coordinator and lead negotiator for global health and foreign policy. Prior to this, Asha led the policy work on the Sustainable Development Goals and the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Saint Kitts and Nevis. She has been a mentor for the Women's Foreign Policy Group since 2022. She was also a United Nations International Law Fellow in 2022. Asha holds a Master’s Degree in International Political Economy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science. She was born and raised in Saint Kitts and Nevis. |
